A Native wiẃsu (child) should be proud to wear their ćićal (feather), but they were taken of the rights to do so. In the US around the mid-1600s to the early-1900s, sadly sometimes even to this day, Native American children were stripped of their culture by having to go to residential schools. ...These schools were cutting their hair, wouldn’t allow them to speak their Native tongue, forced them to wear uniforms, changed their Native names, and just completely forced them out of their culture and who they are.
We ask of you to wear an orange shirt on the date 9/30 to pay tribute to the Natives that had to go through this difficult and horrifying experience.

On Wednesday, Fresno Unified Nutrition Services partnered with No Kid Hungry to host the first Lucky Tray Day of the year! Volunteers read to elementary school students during breakfast and two lucky students from each school won a nutrition-related picture book. #FUSDFamily

September is Deaf Awareness Month. Hoover High School is celebrating Deaf Awareness Month by hosting activities that encourage inclusion and understanding. Huge shoutout to Hoover and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program for educating students in engaging and impactful fashion.

Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day. This day commemorates the experiences of Native Americans who were forced to attend “residential schools” established in the United States from the mid 1600s to early 1900s with the objective of assimilating Native American youth into Western culture
